Oceanside DECA

I joined DECA my sophomore year and learned business fundamentals and marketing techniques. Stepping up and running for leadership my junior (Executive Vice President) and senior year (President) I took on a more prominent role in the club. I organized meetings and mentored freshmen with their papers. All 3 years in the club I competed in the Community Giving Category due to my love for giving back to the community in times of need. Both sophomore and junior year I placed top 10 in New York State for my paper.

SOPHMORE YEAR - PAWS FOR A CAUSE

After selecting Posh Pets animal shelter as our fundraiser, we began the process of spreading the fundraising word. We reached out to Key Club, K-Kids, Girl Scouts, Honor Societies and teachers to offer incentives such as a badge or community service hours. After a week long donation drive we collected over 500 donations for Posh Pets Animal Shelter. We placed 2nd in presentations and 5th overall in New York State! We were interviewed by the local newspaper, the Herald, for our community outreach project during the holiday season!

JUNIOR YEAR- HEALING FOR HEARTS

Junior year my DECA partner and I chose to do a fundraiser for the Safe Center Long Island, a domestic violence shelter located in Bethpage New York. We chose this topic as it is frequently shied away from and we wanted to bring awareness to the issue of domestic violence. We once again counted on our community to bring in the necessities for the victims of abuse. After numerous marketing techniques, community outreach and incentives we collected over 1K donations for the shelter. The inhabitants of the shelter were able to select what they needed from the donations to help them get back on their feet. We placed 6th overall in New York State.

After the fundraiser

Even after our fundraiser came to an end, we remained in contact with the Safe Center LI through various events such as their annual 5k!

Received an award at an Oceanside Board Meeting for placing Top 10 Overall New York State.

SENIOR YEAR- PLAYING FOR PINK

Senior year we chose to mix it up and do a monetary fundraiser for Dubin Breast Center to raise money for breast cancer research. We connected with fall sports teams at Oceanside High School in hopes to have teams host pink-out games wearing the pink-out shirts we  created. We incorporated raffle tickets for various prizes as well to raise 3K for breast cancer research. More pink-out games on the way!(Please note the most accurate amount raised is located here due to submission of resumes at different times).
